We hope you'll consider joining us for an exciting day of karate competition. This traditional karate tournament is being held under an AAU sanction and will be the final chance for our athletes to gain competitive experience before the 2008 AAU National Championships to be held in Albany, NY at the end of June. We expect several strong teams to be in attendance and are looking forward to everyone's participation.

This promises to be an exciting and fun-filled event with:
  • Championship Cup and plaque awarded to the best-performing dojo.
  • AAU Point Earnings for Niagara District athletes.
  • Exciting demonstrations.
  • Special style-specific divisions.
  • Personal registration fee waived for coaches bringing 10 or more athletes.
  • Experienced and qualified referees.

Updates: Due to the number of dojos we're expecting who do not regularly participate in AAU events we are waiving the requirement for wearing an AAU patch and will allow a single dojo patch or logo on the left chest. It should be noted that athletes will not be allowed to compete at the AAU National Championships without complete uniform compliance including the designated patch.

Based on registration response, we have also added a new shito-ryu kata division in addition to a Grand Kata Championship division made up of the winners of all style-specific kata divisions. The winner of this award will receive a beautiful championship cup.

The original registration forms did not include the registration fee. This has been corrected and new versions of the registration forms are available for download below. Old forms are still acceptable - just send in the registration fee of $40 for pre-registration and $60 for late registration to the address on the form.

Family members, instructors and friends of participants can now support the Syracuse Karate Foundation by purchasing a personalized note of support in our program.

Rules Update: The following recent changes to the AAU Karate rules are in effect for this event:
  • WKC Penalty rules will be used in kumite. No points will be awarded for penalties. The three levels of penalties (not including Shikaku - disqualification) are Chukoku - Warning, Hansoku Chui – Official Warning, Hansoku - Foul. Hansoku results in loss of the match.
  • The 10-second rule will apply to both adults and youth kumite. If a person cannot “stand at the line” within 10 seconds of Yame, he/she is considered unable to continue and may not fight. A Kiken (Forfeit), Kachi (Winner), or Make (Defeat) will result.
  • Straight Reperchage charting will be used in Kumite divisions.
  • In Kata divisions where flag judgment is used, the last athlete to be defeated by the gold medalist in the first round will be pulled aside and be exempt from the second round. That defeated athlete will then compete against the winner of the second round for second and third place.
